🧊 Icebreaker: “Training the Jungle AI”
Time: 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM
Objective: To demonstrate Feature Extraction—how computers look for specific traits to identify an object.
The Activity
- The Training Phase: Ask students to write 5 “Rules” (Features) to identify a Lion without using the word “Lion.”
- Expected Features: Golden fur, big mane (hair around the neck), sharp claws, loud roar, four legs.
- The Classification Phase: You will show a series of images. The students must act as the “AI” and shout “LION!” only if the image matches at least 3 of their rules.
The “Test” Images
- Image 1: A Male Lion. (Matches all rules – High Accuracy).
- Image 2: A Tiger. (Matches “claws” and “legs,” but lacks the “mane” – Teaches the AI to look for patterns).
- Image 3: A Female Lioness. (Matches most rules but lacks the mane – Discuss why the AI might fail here and how we need more diverse data!).
- Image 4: A House Cat. (Small but has similar ears and whiskers – Discuss Scale in AI).
